Lego Workshop

How exciting! We had Clare and Vanessa from The Brick Pit come to visit today and bring a heap of Lego with them. After a short intro we got into groups and went around to different stations to make things from Lego.  The stations were:

• The Astronaut's Toolbox
• Lego Soil Layers
• Rocket and Spaceships
• Planet Surfaces
• Land and Seascape
• Lego Stars

It was so much fun getting creative and trying to create things with Lego.

 Unfortunately, it didn't end well for everyone...

Mangere Mountain

 We had a fantastic day yesterday for our trip to Mangere Mountain. We arrived and were welcomed by our hosts for the day, Ellie and Leilani. 

After a quick snack they took us on a walk over the mountain to explain different features... 

Then, after lunch we learned about some of the ways trees and plants can be used for medicine...

And we got to try out different skills for making a traditional axe...

It was a great day for learning about a place so close to our school.

Scooter Skills

Today we had a session about scooter skills with John from Auckland Transport. 

He talked to us about... 

• wearing helmets properly
• how to slow down using the breaks
• how to stop quickly
• what to do to use a pedestrian crossing safely
• how to watch out for cars in driveways

We also had the challenge of trying a few jumps. 

It was a fun session that helped us be mindful about using scooters and how to keep ourselves and others safe.

Athletics Day

 We had our school Athletics Day this week. Along with the typical events, such as long jump, high jump, sprints and shot put, we had other activities like tennis skills, team building activities, hurdles and obstacle courses. It was a fun day with sunny weather. 

Pink Shirt Day

 Kōrero mai, Kōrero atu, Mauri tū, Mauri ora 

Speak up, Stand together, Stop Bullying

That was the focus for this year's Pink Shirt Day. We showed our support with a mufti day and collected over $240 for the Pink Shirt Day organisation. Great going Waikowhai!

Our Dance For Production

We have been busy practising our class dance for the production coming up in Week 4. Here is a short teaser of what to expect (from our first practise this term). I can't wait to see how it will look with everyone in costume!
