Art Festival

We have been busy over the last term planning, investigating, sketching and creating some magnificent works of art.

First we investigated endemic animals (ones that are only found in New Zealand). After we decided on an animal to create a piece of art about, we explored different ways to get the outline of the animal (some students used images to sketch from, others used a drawing document and traced the outline). Once that was done we primed our paper (coated it with a couple of layers of white paint). When that was dry we sketched the outline of the animal onto the page. We used rulers to divide the animal into shapes, chose our colours (3 or 4) and painted each section (with some touch-ups along the way).

Check out our finished masterpieces!!!

Zoofari

As part of our inquiry about animals we visited the Auckland Zoo. The main focus was the New Zealand animals. Our class were taken through the Te Wao Nui (New Zealand) section and saw the native bird enclosure as well as the reptile enclosures. We managed to get around to see most of the other areas of the zoo too. We also had the opportunity to see the Bug Lab and find out some interesting facts about insects. Here are some of the highlights...
