Welcome to WAITEMATA 2018!

Kia ora, kia orana, talofa lava, malo e lelei, ni hao, namaste, bonjour, hola, guten tag..

We have been busy during the first few weeks of Term 1.

Out of the Box

During the first few days many excited students were eagerly involved in the 'opening of the box' ceremony with their new chromebooks.

Technology Challenge

We also had a challenge where students had to work in groups across the senior syndicate to construct a shelter to fit a group member from newspaper, tape and wool that would withstand a strong wind. We started off indoors to design and construct...

...then moved outside to face the wind from the leaf blower!!!

Swimming and Water Safety

For the first half of term students have been improving their confidence and skills in the water at Cameron Pools. Recently Waitemata learned some safety skills while wearing life jackets.

Waiting to hop in the pool

Huddling to stay together and keep warm

Helping to rescue someone

  2. Kia ora, Waitemata.
You have had an interesting start to the year! There are lots of things different from Year 5 and 6 classes when I was a school kid. I had smooth new stationery but no Chromebook. I remember making crafts but not solving actual problems, partly because technology wasn't an official subject when I was that age. We certainly went swimming (in our freezing cold school pool) but it looks like fun to practise wearing life jackets.
I hope the rest of your term is just as full of learning. Keep up the great work.
